Beyond The Black Rainbow

I love this trailer. It’s got the vibe of late 70′s early 80′s science fiction, a dash of Phase IV crossed with The Andromeda Strain via the pallette of Argento. It’s very, very cool. Add some 80′s synth and it’s one thing and one thing only – awesome to the max.

I’m not sure if I’d recommend the film it’s self. It’s fairly obscure and not easy or passive viewing. I would say for anyone interested in cinema that offers unforgettable and original imagery it’s a must like Tarsem’s The Fall or sections of The Cell.

Oh, and it was made in 2010 by Panos Cosmatos. A man whose name is probably quite indicative of the films cosmic, awe inspiring strangeness. I haven’t seen something this convincingly retro since Ti Wests’s House of The Devil. Another thing to check out if you like 80′s horror. It’s a great little film and stars Tom Noonan who played Francis Dollarhyde in Manhunter.

I always wanted someone to make a movie starring Tom Noonan, Michael Ironside, Clancy Brown and Vincent Schiavelli (who is sadly dead). Great and underrated actors all. You know them, even if you think you don’t – you do!

I’ll stop mentioning obscure directors and actors now.
